Residential Industrial Loft Design in KL

The Challenge:

Our client his home to be inspired by an industrial loft. How do we create a cozy environment to offset the rawness of an industrial appearance?

The Ground Up Solution:

Of course, we explored exposed ductwork and wiring, red brick walls and concrete textures throughout the space. We saw an opportunity to treat the wiring as a decorative element by composing them in playful arrangements. White timber shutters, wood cabinetry, and warm lighting were introduced to create a homey ambiance.

Three Generation Residential Property Project

The Challenge:

How do we design a contemporary home for three generations living under one roof?

The Ground Up Solution:

While our clients have different style preferences ranging from something edgy to something classic to something oriental, we approached the design with a middle ground aiming to create a home that reflects all its inhabitants’ tastes with timelessness in mind. While the bedrooms directly reflect the owner’s style choice, the common areas like the living room, dining area, and kitchen carry a more modern and contemporary style with nodes of orientalism that are brought in by the art and sculptures displayed. We also kept the overall tone of the home neutral with whites, greys, and wood.

The Challenge:

How do we blend the client’s love for classic interiors with an overall minimalistic and relevant outlook?

The Ground Up Solution:

We adapted some neo-classic elements into the overall space like ceiling cornices which is used to conceal curtain tracks and light troves, and wall beading applied across the horizontal plane to blur the distinction between walls and doors.

Modern elements like black steel, tile, and sleek carpentry details tie the whole look together, keeping it fresh and timeless.

The challenge:

How do we transform an outdated bungalow into a cozy living space that will remain relevant in the next 20 years, yet still leave plenty of opportunities for the owners to put their personal touches on the place?

The Ground Up solution:

We did an extension on the property’s front end & gave the exterior a new contemporary outlook with a hint of tropical vibe.

Inside, we practiced open space planning by having spatial fluidity between different zones of the home. We’ve kept the overall look minimal and sleek flanked by neutral hues consisting of timber carpentry and flooring, paired with concrete panels across textured walls and floor.

We offset these rich surfaces with plenty of white walls to emulate the look of a gallery so that the owners can proudly display their artwork and memorabilia from their travels to make the house their home. Black accents were added via light fixtures, windows and door frames.

To introduce ‘nature’ into the space, we ensured each living space had a window to frame the greenery that surrounded the residence so that people within would never feel too far away from the calming outdoors.

The Challenge:

We wanted her home to be contemporary and chic with a hint of industrialism. How do we create a space that is both edgy and feminine?

The Ground Up Solution:

We introduced steel at the glass sliding doors that separate the bedroom from the wardrobe, and in the living room and kitchen to bring that sense of industrialism to the project. We then added punches of emerald green and blue-greys on the walls to liven up the space to contrast the masculinity. Red bricks clad the walls of the study while timber shelving offsets the rough textures to give warmth. The selection of furniture compliments the space by adding elegance and femininity. The client enjoys collecting art and trinkets from her travels that that were showcased throughout the home.
